About Ivel Valley Walkers

The Ivel Valley Walkers was founded in 1984. We currently have over 350 members and affiliated members, many of whom walk with us on a regular basis. Members of other local groups often join us too, knowing they will get a good walk and a friendly welcome. We regularly welcome new people on our walks and many go on to become members. Please join us on our walks.

We provide around 200 walks throughout the year.  In our programme you will find:

Every Sunday : a full day’s walking of about 12 miles, with alternate weekends being two half-day walks of about 7 and 5 miles. On these days people can walk just in the morning or afternoon or walk both. There is almost always a pub stop at lunchtime, but we bring our own food if staying all day.

Alternate Tuesdays : a long mid-week walk of between 10 - 13 miles, conducted at a brisk pace with shorter stops, finishing mid-afternoon. We bring food and drinks for the whole day as a pub/cafe stop is not expected.

Every Wednesday : a morning walk of about 7 miles.

Alternate Thursdays : a slower paced walk (we call them Ambles) of between 4 - 5 miles.

Occasional Fridays - a bus walk of about 7 miles accessed by public transport or sometimes a special interest walk.

We also have

Coach Trips : (usually on Sundays) and Train Excursions (usually on Saturdays, sometimes to London) to explore and walk in lovely places further afield.

Holidays : (usually for 5 or 6 days, 2 or 3 times a year) with members booking their own accommodation. Walks and a group meal are provided.

Social Events : are organised throughout the year such as mulled wine rambles, bowling evenings, discos, canal boat trips, gliding and much more.
